Introduction
일반적으로 식물은 식물 자체 성분의 3-4 % 에 해당하는 양의 질소를 가지고 있는데 이는 다른 영양소에 비해
상당히 많은 양에 해당한다. 질소는 식물의 광합성 작용에 매우 중요한 성분이므로 식물은 ammonium (NH4+),
nitrate (NO3-), urea ((NH2)2 CO) 등 다양한 형태의 질소원으로부터 질소를 흡수하게 된다.
대부분의 상업적인 비료에는 이러한 질소들을 다량 함유하고 있다.
비료에 있는 nitric nitrogen 과 ammonia nitrogen 의 함량 분석
이 방법은 Devarda’s alloy 를 이용하여 샘플을 환원시켜 질산염과 암모니아성 질소의 양을 측정하는 것이다.
질산염 이온과 Devarda’s alloy 용액을 sodium hydroxide 용액과 섞게 되면 암모니아 기체가 발생한다.
이 방법은 거의 모든 형태의 질소 비료에 적용할 수 있다.
Samples
Two samples of ammonium nitrate fertilizer have been tested :
- Fertilizer 1 expected value : 34.69 %N
- Fertilizer 2 expected value : 26.79 %N
Reagents and equipment
- Magnetic stirrer
- Burette 50 ml, precision 0.1 ml
- Sodium Hydroxide 32 %
- Devarda Alloy, powder
- Sodium hydroxide 0.1 N
- Sulfuric acid 0.2 N
- Methyl red in ethanol, as indicator
Sample Preparation
300 - 350 mg 의 샘플을 test tube 에 넣고 다시 여기에 1.5g 의 Devarda’s alloy powder 를 넣는다.
Distillation and titration
물과 NaOH 를 넣고 다음 조건으로 시료를 distillation 한다.
- H2O: 10 ml
- NaOH: 50 ml
- Receiving solution: 0 ml
- Distillation time: 5 min
- Steam power: 80 %
- Pause: 12 minutes
distillation 공정 마지막에 No automatic distillation residues discharge 으로 설정한다.
receiving solution 으로서 250 ml 용량의 Erlenmeyer flask 에 0.2 N 황산용액 50ml 와 4 - 5 방울의 methyl red 지시약 용액을 넣는다.
titrant solution 으로서 0.1 N NaOH 를 50 ml burette 을 이용하여 색깔이 변할 때 까지 천천히 투입한다.
Typical Results on Fertilizer samples
투입된 titration solution 의 용량 (ml) 로 부터 다음 공식을 이용하여 질소 함량 (%N) 을 계산한다.
- V1: ml of the receiving solution (50 ml)
- N1: Normality of the receiving solution (0.2 N)
- V2: ml of NaOH dosed for titration of the sample
- N2: Normality of the NaOH solution (0.1 N)
- V1B : ml of the receiving solution for the blank (10 ml)
- V2B : ml of NaOH dosed for titration of the blank
- MN : Nitrogen molecular weight (14.007 g/mol)
- msample : sample quantity (mg)
이 공식에 의해 구한 비료 샘플의 질소함량 (%N) 은 다음 table 과 같다.
Conclusions
VELP 사의 UDK 149 Distillation Unit 을 이용하여 Devarda Method 방법에 따라 측정한 비료의 질소 함량은
예상치에 정확히 일치하였다.
