일반적으로 spectrophotometer 를 이용할 경우 600nm 파장을 이용하나 BioPAT® Fundalux 에서는 840 - 910nm 의 NIR (near infra red) 파장을 이용하여 측정 |

optical sensity 측정은 probe 에 의해 이루어지며 probe 의 끝 부분에 있는 gap 의 한쪽 면에서 light 를 조사하고
다른쪽 면에서 투과되는 light intensity 를 측정하는 방식으로서 absorption-based photometric probe 를 이용하는 것이다. |

사용되는 probe 는 크기와 형태에 따라 다음 2가지 종류가 있다.
- 12mm probe - 25mm probe |

12mm probe : 주로 소형의 bioreactor 의 상단 cover 에 수직으로 설치하여 사용, autoclave 가능 |
|
| |
25mm probe : 주로 대형의 bioreactor 에 사용되며 reactor 의 벽면에 수평으로 설치하여 사용, CIP, SIP 가능 |

각 probe 에는 3가지 종류의 optical path length 가 있다.
- 1mm - 5mm - 10mm |

bioreactor 에 cell 을 inoculation 하기전에 controller 를 통해 zero-point calibration 시행 |

측정된 optical density 는 bioreactor 의 controller 에 저장 |

probe 를 통해 측정된 CU (concentration units) 는 다음과 같은 값으로 전환 가능
- OD 590 or 600 nm (optical density)
- g/L WCW (wet cell weight)
- g/L DCW (dry cell weight) |
